RED SURF - BY BLAZE MCROB

Red Surf, a short story by Blaze McRob, is a tale of revenge, triggered by incidents that could have, in real life, led to tragic results for many people. The book description sets it up nicely.

******

Once known for romance,

This place turns into a bloody dance;

In the tempo of disease

On an island no one leaves.

******

To add even more of a reason to check out my tale, I have included a short teaser below.

******

There is just a sliver of a moon tonight, barely enough to show the surf for what it is. Others like me stare out into the gently rippling waters, the hunger in our bellies driving us mad from the ravenous urge to seek out more prey. But one cannot eat what is not there.

Maybe . . .  just maybe if I wade out into the red surf one more time there will be a morsel overlooked from before.

Others beat me to it, but it is all for naught. The blood-stained waters are barren. We saw to that earlier. Santa Catalina. The old song beats a wild staccato in my head. No, this is no longer an island of romance. Leave me alone, damn it!

But it doesn't leave me alone. Over and over again the words assault me. How can there be romance without people? There can't. This is insanity. Everything is insanity now. 4,000 residents of this island are either now dead or like me. Maybe I'd be better off dead.

The old clay and metal pipes which wore away long ago allowed human sewage to flow into the city's groundwater and eventually into Avalon Bay. Over the years the bacteria deposits grew and gained entry into the bodies of those tending the beaches. Day after day we were assaulted without even knowing it.

The fecal bacteria inside my body tear at me, changing me more and more from what once was a human to whatever it is I am now. Chunks of flesh have fallen away from me, leaving boils and pockets of pus. My hair is rapidly becoming a thing of the past, joining with my departed flesh as it becomes litter on the beach, further desecrating it.

ROMANTIC SHADOWS - BY TERRI DELCAMPO & BLAZE MCROB

https://books2read.com/u/31rapl

Romantic Shadows, by Terri DelCampo and Blaze McRob, is a collection published by Blazing Owl Press on our wedding anniversary back in 2016. We eased up a bit on our usual horror fare and wrote some romance-themed short stories and poems. Yes, there are certainly elements of horror contained within, but that is not all we present in this tome. Lovers are reunited in magical ways. The Dance Of Love soothes yearning hearts, and much more.

We hope you enjoy the softer side of horror we share with you here.

Blaze McRob

******

True love drowned by stormy seas?

Nun and lover brought to knees.

Wig transforms a broken girl.

Lady killed by shrapnel hurled.

Lambada's passion warms the soul.

Tears in heaven are wrath's toll.

Like seeks like when soulmates meet.

Poe's adoring shadow greets.

Will child be mother's resurrection?

Powwow lovers pose for perfection.

Artists' souls joined with paint eternal.

Chilesa's life raft is infernal.

Moon beams and lovers dream – forever

All in this tome – a dark romance endeavor.

FLASH IN THE PAN - BY TERRI DELCAMPO

Flash In The Pan is one Terri DelCampo's great short stories. I love how Terri keeps the reader more involved in the story with her styling of warnings throughout the tale, alerting the protagonists about things to do and not to do as the story progresses. She pulls this off well. Naturally, as I read the story, I was on the lookout for more clues to what was inevitable, but which actually wasn't. This brought about a paradox of facts and solutions to every twist and turn. Nothing is cast in stone in this story. This is a most intriguing tale.

The above link should be read carefully. If this turns out to be true, and this is what Trump has in mind, every citizen in the United States will be put under a microscopic view that will thwart any effort of peaceful and lawful dissent in the country. I, for one, refuse to put up with this subjugation of privacy. All of us need to stand up to the abuse this sad excuse of a chief executive wishes to exert over us. GILAS SUPREME - BY BLAZE MCROB

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B084XVVLGQ/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i35

https://www.patreon.com/posts/gilas-supreme-42800148

Gilas Supreme, by Blaze McRob, is a tale of Mother Nature unleashing monsters on New Mexico and Texas. How far does she go with her revenge? Read the teaser I have below. and hopefully it will draw you into wondering what lies inside my twisted mind. After all, something like this couldn't really happen. Or could it?

Gilas Supreme is one of my more popular short stories and can be read on Amazon or on my Patreon page. I hope you enjoy it.

*****

The hot desert air barely moves, magnifying the intensity of what mother nature has decided will be the hottest summer on record. How many days of 110-degree heat in a row now? Thirty-four and counting. There has been no rain for many months, and this extreme temperature is set to cause fires over many thousands of acres if even only a single spark is ignited.

Shit! The brush has the consistency of tumble weeds, ones which haven’t seen a drop of water in a year. Flames would spread so fast here a person wouldn’t be able to drive away fast enough to escape them.

I shake my head. What the fuck am I doing here? My life is on the line, and for what? A job? My damned job might be history by the end of the year anyway. Budget cuts are playing nasty with people in my profession. Biologists are finding it difficult to gain any kind of job security anymore. Congress figures we’re an automatic budget cut item. They don’t give a damn what happens to the endangered species out here. Oil is what drives them. “Drill, baby, drill” is what is on the minds of these fat-cat politicians.

No sense in worrying about that now. I still have a job, and I’m getting paid to do it, so I will. Many native species have vanished from this area almost overnight. Owls, rabbits, deer, and more are almost gone. Even the damned snakes have dwindled in numbers. And the evening skies are so quiet one would think there is nothing out here at all other than an aging biologist trying to piece together the parts of the huge puzzle.

Terri DelCampo is a fabulous writer with a diabolical mind. In James Reborn each new revelation, each unveiling of another, darker level to which the human species is capable of sinking, brought a fresh shock of wonder at the genius behind the relentless evil unfolding on the page. So painful, so physically emotive; I had to set the book aside to breathe. Visceral and truly frightening, though I had to pause for sanity’s sake, I could not stop until the end. If you want a well-written book that will shake you to your core, this is it.

LIVING GREEN: WHO ARE THE CLIMATE DENIERS? - BY BLAZE MCROB

In addition to my articles about pollution, I’ll be adding many Climate Change facts to my Living Green series. Everything is interconnected. One affects the other. I’ll be showing that as I move along.

Approximately 97% of scientific consensus on climate change agrees that humans are responsible for the global warming going on today. Who are the other 3%?

It is possible for some who believe in human-made global warming to fail to come to terms with it. Many use their denial for their own purposes or for those they work for. Yes, I’m talking about those with industrial, ideological, or political interests. Supposedly scientific studies arrive on the scene showing that people have been duped by the majority of scientists in the field. These propaganda machines are meant to sow confusion within the populace. After all, who wants to believe that if we don’t do what we can to stop global warming that we’ll have to learn the lost art of treading water forever and a day? That sounds alarming to most folks. However, it’s time to wake up and smell the roses, and stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Conservative economic policies and industrial interests opposed to the regulation of CO2 emissions, such as the Koch brothers, fossil fuel companies and their lobbies, and right-wing think tanks produce most of the anti-climate change propaganda fed to the American public. A lot of people swallow it up.

I cannot stress enough the fact that politicians are muddying their hands in this. The big-oil lobbies fill their pockets with untold millions of dollars to do their bidding. This is true for both parties, although conservatives certainly are at the head of the receiving line. My suggestion? Make the lobbies illegal. Any lobby, in my mind, does nothing but bribe our elected officials.

Big coal is starting to crumble, but they’re not going out without a fight. They should be held accountable, as well.

In 2016, every Republican presidential candidate denied climate change. That’s only ten years ago, folks. What’s changed since then? Nothing much as far as the Republicans are concerned. Would you accept them at their word, or would you accept the word of scientists instead? The answer’s an easy one for me. Science, it is.

For thirty years, the fossil fuel industry, political lobbyists, and media hotshots have been telling lies about climate change that cause doubt in the minds of many people. $200 million dollars a year is spent on such lobbying to stop needed climate policy changes.

Deniers suggest that climate change is just part of a natural cycle. Others insist that CO2 is too small a part of the atmosphere to cause enough of a heating effect.

How about the theory among deniers that climate scientists are fixing their data to show the climate is changing? Why would they do this? Certainly, a so-called scientist working for the big oil industry would be more likely to do this. That’s what they’re paid to do.

Some former skeptics agree with climate scientists but are concerned about the costs and other implications of many of the policies currently being advocated. In other words, climate change is now about the cost, not the science.

There are climate change deniers arguing that climate change is good for us. They say longer, warmer summers in the temperate zone will make farming more productive. These gains, however, are often offset by the drier summers and increased frequency of heatwaves in those same areas.

Deniers say that plants need atmospheric carbon dioxide to grow so having more of it acts as a fertilizer. This is true, but losing massive areas of natural vegetation through deforestation and changes in land use nullifies this, and, of course, the increased temperatures ravage the soil, lowering the moisture level in it, and make it non-productive.

Don’t listen to these people. Get the facts for yourself. Read articles, journals, books. Whatever it takes. Remember, though, that many news and political sources are trash. Be your own researcher. Don’t throw you, your children, and grandchildren under the bus. Care about your family. Care about yourself.

RFK JR AND AUTISM

RFK Jr. is up to some tricky horseshit. Once again, he wants to drag his belief into the limelight that vaccines cause autism. This theory has been debunked on a number of occasions. His methods to accomplish this would combine federal health data, medical records, insurance claims, and more. Gathering tons of info would make it easier to provide the phony evidence that this charlatan is after. Let's face facts: RFK Jr. is not hardly qualified to be in the job he's in.

Medication records from pharmacy chains, claims from private insurers, and lab tests from Veterans Affairs will also be accessed. Supposedly, according to all the involved health agencies, all of the expected security and patient privacy standards will be secured. There is no way I believe that.

Besides everything else, this hints at the possibility of developing an autism national disease registry. This is a no-brainer: it shouldn't be done. For one thing, the way the whole thing looks to me is that RFK Jr. and others are belittling people on the autism spectrum. They're saying what they believe to be true: that people on the spectrum are incapable of existing on their own. Many adults lumped into this category are far more intelligent than the idiots coming after them. Yes, there are certainly some people who could use some assistance, but there are many others who do rather well in the real world.

I hate labels. I know many people, children and adults, who are stigmatized by incorrect characterizations. Not all people see and handle situations in the same manner. As individuals, it's our right to be different, as long as no harm is perpetuated against others. No one person or group should have the power to dictate what social norms are to be accepted.

This is one battle that I'll be keeping a close eye on. Things are changing almost daily on this. I don't want to get left behind.

Thank you for reading.

GREEN GEEZERS

https://greengeezers.blogspot.com/

From Terri DelCampo

******

Hi friends,

So you found Green Geezers. Welcome!

"Be the change you want to see in the world" is a profound maxim that I took to heart for two reasons: 1) Talk is cheap and 2) because sometimes I'm looking for a way to help despite my physical disabilities and limited finances. Since that particular obstacle course hasn't been widely addressed by existing organizations or programs, I thought it was time to get creative.

I'm a physically disabled writer living well below the poverty line.  Attending demonstrations? Not happening. Publicizing the work of organizations, foundations, and individual environmentalists? Hell yes! I'm all in.

Hence the Green Geezers blog.

Who we are:

I am a horror writer, as is my husband, Blaze McRob. We post daily links and sample chapters of our books on social media. And extend that publicity to other writer friends of ours. While we donate to certain charities and causes as much as possible, we wanted to do more, but in our own way.   We have discussions and exchange ideas all the time about ways to conserve, recycle, and make a difference. We have mixed reactions about the threat of extinction of humankind: the earth would heal and replenish itself if we (humans) bit the dust, but it's tragic how many species we would be taking (and have already taken) with us.

The problem as I see it:

It occurs to me that many problems are simply unknown, people are uneducated or follow misleading headlines, or people feel problems are insurmountable and that any contribution they make would be inconsequential.

What I hope to do:

I'm hoping to bring to light information about the problems, who's out there trying to fix them, how they can be helped/reached/donated to, and who you might contact to pitch in. Also, I want to publish some tips on how you can make painless little changes right in your own household to make a difference. One of those tips is to share all the positive, useful information you can.

I figure if the hate and violence mongers can spread their filth all over the internet, then those of us who want a healed earth for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren can counter the negativity with positive messages and information. If we each spend some time every day getting our message out there, hopefully we will drown out the ignorant, or better yet inform them; educate them and hopefully welcome them to stand with us.

We all need to unite and fix these problems, not just for our own legacies, but for the survival of our generations to come.

Green Geezers will help you be mindful in your daily activities, and hopefully show you how to make a difference. You can, you know, and in old-school ways as well as new.

Again, welcome to the Green Geezers blog. Now that we're acquainted, it's time to get down to business. There's so much more to come!

Thanks for reading and caring!

WISDOM OF A CHILD

https://www.patreon.com/Blaze_McRob

Wisdom Of A Child is one of my more reflective stories. Some of the best discussions we have are with those we least expect to be talking with. Read my teaser below and you'll see what I'm talking about.

******

Three A.M. I sit outside on my lawn, cup of coffee in hand, looking across the road, watching the deer feeding on the expansive grassy area in front of the township school. The bright moon allows me to see their every move. They are such docile creatures, seemingly content, but still ever vigilant. After all, this is the world of mankind, a world not always compatible with the other inhabitants residing on the planet.

It’s calm outside: no traffic to speak of, and, seemingly, everyone else around is asleep. This is my time to be alone with my thoughts, no one near to intrude into my private early morning domain, a place where everything is calm, relaxed, and stress is merely a word of what was and will be, having nothing to do with the present. Mists rise up from the lush greenery, a hint of the humidity to come. It is pleasant out here for the moment, but the oppressive heat will be here soon enough. Time to enjoy what I have now.

“I love watching the fog roll in like that, don’t you?”

I glance in the direction of the voice and see a young child, probably around five or six years old, looking at me. He’s sitting in a miniature lawn chair, no more than two feet from me. I should be frightened, or at least startled by his sudden appearance, but there’s a kind of calmness around him that puts me at ease. My only wonderment resides in the fact I never heard him come over to me.

I'LL BE GONE IN THE DARK - BY MICHELLE MCNAMARA

https://www.amazon.com/Ill-Be-Gone-Dark-Obsessive/dp/0062871307/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1524784677&sr=1-2

I'll Be Gone In The Dark, by Michelle McNamara, is one fantastic non-fiction book that will grip you tightly. It is the result of painstaking work and research by the author. This is real-world horror that displays the worst that humankind is capable of. Notice the review by Stephen King.

This great book took the world by storm after the capture of the purported demon responsible for so many murders and rapes.

Blaze McRob

Introduction by Gillian Flynn

Afterword by Patton Oswalt

I’ll Be Gone in the Dark will undoubtedly be stocked in the True Crime section, which is fine, but in so many ways it’s a brilliant genre-buster. It’s propulsive, can’t-stop-now reading, which makes it all too easy to ignore the clean and focused writing.

What readers need to know—what makes this book so special—is that it deals with two obsessions, one light and one dark. The Golden State Killer is the dark half; Michelle McNamara’s is the light half. It’s a journey into two minds, one sick and disordered, the other intelligent and determined. I loved this book.”   —Stephen King

A masterful true crime account of the Golden State Killer—the elusive serial rapist turned murderer who terrorized California for over a decade—from Michelle McNamara, the gifted journalist who died tragically while investigating the case.

"You’ll be silent forever, and I’ll be gone in the dark."

For more than ten years, a mysterious and violent predator committed fifty sexual assaults in Northern California before moving south, where he perpetrated ten sadistic murders. Then he disappeared, eluding capture by multiple police forces and some of the best detectives in the area.

Three decades later, Michelle McNamara, a true crime journalist who created the popular website TrueCrimeDiary.com, was determined to find the violent psychopath she called "the Golden State Killer." Michelle pored over police reports, interviewed victims, and embedded herself in the online communities that were as obsessed with the case as she was.

At the time of the crimes, the Golden State Killer was between the ages of eighteen and thirty, Caucasian, and athletic—capable of vaulting tall fences. He always wore a mask. After choosing a victim—he favored suburban couples—he often entered their home when no one was there, studying family pictures, mastering the layout. He attacked while they slept, using a flashlight to awaken and blind them. Though they could not recognize him, his victims recalled his voice: a guttural whisper through clenched teeth, abrupt and threatening.

I’ll Be Gone in the Dark—the masterpiece McNamara was writing at the time of her sudden death—offers an atmospheric snapshot of a moment in American history and a chilling account of a criminal mastermind and the wreckage he left behind. It is also a portrait of a woman’s obsession and her unflagging pursuit of the truth. Framed by an introduction by Gillian Flynn and an afterword by her husband, Patton Oswalt, the book was completed by Michelle’s lead researcher and a close colleague. Utterly original and compelling, it is destined to become a true crime classic—and may at last unmask the Golden State Killer.
